Disability Ministries Model

A disability ministry, which can have a focus of hearing loss. Not surprisingly, there is some overlap between Deaf ministries and disability ministries in terms of accessibility, advocacy, empowerment, and inclusion. Considerations for possible barriers, accommodations, and general advice for inclusion are discussed. Also included are ministry considerations. Often, what distinguishes disability ministries from the other Deaf ministries models is the stressing of disability rights,
the motivation driving the ministry, promoting disability awareness, the emphasis of disability access, and the work of disability advocacy. Also, the value of Deaf culture and the desire to grow a ministry specifically made up of Deaf, hard of hearing, late-deafened, and Deaf-blind individuals are not typically at the
forefront of a disability ministry.
